GLIMPSE OF ONGOING PROJECTS- SATHISH RESIDENCE AT COIMBATORE

SATHISH RESIDENCE AT COIMBATORE
The client’s brief was pretty simple and straightforward, to abide by vastu rules in the
planning of spaces. The site being located in a gated community, surrounded by roads on all
three sides has a huge foreground which accommodates space for social interaction and a
great view. The residence is designed to accommodate people belonging to 3 different
generations, the client’s, their parents and their children. The planning was strategized to
create interesting spaces within the house as well as around the house. The interior
courtyards are designed to maximize the view and create play areas for the children.
The client wanted a garage to accommodate about like four cars, the garage was designed
such that a clear view is provided from the living room such as to exhibit his cars. The
planning in the ground floor was done as an open planning such that the spaces can be
adapted to accommodate more people.
The ground floor consists of entrance foyer, gathering space, swimming pool, kitchen,
dining, study room, play area, master bedroom and a double height living space. The living
room in the centre acts as a central connecting space which provides a view of all other
spaces. A cantilevered gym is proposed over the swimming pool, with a children’s room and
yoga space on the upper floors. An attic has been provided in the master bedroom as a
children play area to meet with the client’s wishes.
The enclosures of the house are a composition of angles, skewed lines, slanting walls and
sloping roofs. It is designed as a contemporary expression of a residence with interesting
spaces created from the angular walls. The overhanging sloped roofs tend to cut off the
harsh sun. Though contemporary, the house has Indian elements such as thinnai,
courtyards and seaters by the windows. The form is sculpted out of concrete and large
glazed windows to keep the house well lit, the open courtyards for ventilation.

RAMESH RESIDENCE@ECR

MILLENNIAL HOME- RAMESH RESIDENCE@ECR

A family of six, with three generations comprising of grandparents, parents and the kids, resulting in design variations in every aspect. The idea since inception has always been to keep the connection between the generations alive now and in future.
We’re lucky to work with this client who is willing to push the envelope, raise the bar, and challenge us to think even more creatively. For that, we’re grateful.

"Whatever customs humanity had
Becomes waves of compassion.
Nothing with shape and dimensions can keep still, when passions move.
Start your lives over.
The new lines draw a novel future."

The abstract concept was to open up living spaces into large open courts which are of double height in nature and could offer connectivity between levels preventing social isolation with the family.
A new fangled approach on the interaction of young adults was experimented in the "millennial space". Small windows seamlessly disappears into the paneled ceiling.
Though we strived towards making the bedroom restful and relaxing, the master bedroom also had to speak to the varied artistic interests of the owners. Subtle colours , neutral creams and grays are made predominant..

The objective was to create a slight difference in the configuration of various aspects of the design offers a degree of spatial and perspective diversity in the interior and exterior spaces within the confines of conventional wood framing, exposed brickwork and yellow pigmented concrete.
Pebble courts are set to let in pools of natural light in the restrooms.
The large parking space for 4 cars is a makeshift party space for the young adults and family get-together.

Rooms are layered with a mix of overhead lighting, table lamps, floor lamps and wall sconces. Add dimmers for welcoming ambience everywhere from dining rooms to kitchens and the powder room.the kund spaces and the atrium spaces brings the nature in.
A blend of foliage with the exposed yellow pigmented can add vitality to any room in your house.concrete and exposed bricks bathing in natural sunlight creates the ambience of serenity. It’s amazing how even a little bit of live greenery.

We feel thankful to Mr.Ramesh, his wife and his sons Adhithya & Aarya.
Also we thank to contractor Srikanth.
And our sincere thanks to Binsan Oommen.
Rest of the interiors will follow soon.
Thanks to Tahaer,
Some interior pics have been added and reamaining will be added soon.

UDHAVUM KARANGAL

A FIVE YEAR JOURNEY FINALLY REACHING THE NEEDY
"THE WAY TO GET MEANING INTO LIFE IS TO DEVOTE YOURSELF TO LOVING OTHERS , DEVOTE YOURSELF TO THE COMMUNITY AND TO CREATE SOMETHING THAT GIVES PURPOSE AND MEANING TO LIFE "
UDHAVUM KARANGAL is one such organisation which was started with a vision of creating "awareness in society that we as a part of the same humanity and together we can build a compassionate world"
UDHAVUM KARANGAL is built on approx 1.5 ACRES land at Thiruverkadu, Chennai district.
The main goal here is to not design the Structure as a typical hospital, but consciously design spaces which create a soothing and relaxing effect for the visitors .
The general mission of UDHAVUM KARANGAL to attend basic and emotional needs, is reflected with maximum number of open and gathering courtyards displayed in a compassionate way.
Curved walls used on the entrance makes it a welcoming element to invite and ease the functions of the individual in a harmonious way.
The tall volume of spaces and the light wells inside are designed specifically to foster visual connectivity to all levels and to stream in natural daylight creating an interesting play of light patterns throughout the day thus having a healing effect and a stress relief for the infirms.
Smooth curling walls are used with a splash of color to play wonderfully against the dramatic views making it the foremost focal point and drawing towards the rooms beyond.
The slender exposed concrete columns holding the bold masses creates a visual contrast to the white-painted walls creating a sense of flow and energy aiding the open-plan feel of this space
