Our journey with IIA reached the milestone at 2020, when our project JJ MEMORIAL - Memorial for the then CM of Tamilnadu late Ms. J.Jayalalitha got shortlisted under first jury and then won the commendation award under the category IIA NATIONAL AWARDS 2020 FOR EXCELLENCE IN ARCHITECTURE - PUBLIC/INSTITUTIONAL. We are delighted to announce that this esteemed achievement of ours has been marked and published in the JOURNAL OF INDIAN INSTITUTE OF ARCHITECTS - BRILLIANCE - MAY 2022 publication.

Ar.
Murali, graduated from Anna University and M.Arch from McGill University,
Canada. He started his firm, Murali Architects in the year 1990. Murali
Architects creates a versatile body of work ranging from architecture and
interiors, of various typologies such as Residences, Corporate offices,
Institutional, Retail & Hospitality buildings.
The
firm won the “National Level for
Excellence in Architecture” under the ‘Commercial category’ of Indian Institute
of Architects in the year 2016 for the project – “Highway Restaurant -Manoj
Bhavan”.
The
firm won the “Indian Institute of Designers” in the year 2018 – “ Zonal winners Award” for the design
of Hearing Aid Centre at Chennai.
The
firm recently completed Memorial for Late Former Chief Minister Selvi
Dr.J.Jayalalitha, and won “The Indian Institute of Architects Commendation
Award for Excellence in Architecture 2020”.This work won IAStructE National
Awards 2021.
The
firm has won the “Indian Institute of Architects TN Chapter 2022 Award” under residential projects single family dwelling for Aadaleesan
Residence and also under Architecture unbuilt project for Andaman Resort.
This firm has been awarded
the ’Excellence in Residential Architectural Design’ in the year 2015 presented
by the Chief guest Honorable Governor of
Tamil Nadu Dr.K.S Rosaiah at Kattumanatholil Awards. And also the firm has won
the “Indian Institute of Architects TN
Chapter Commendation
award” for Architectural Creation of the year in 2007.
HOLIDAY HOMES AT YERCAUD
Exploring the yercaud holiday home.....
This beautiful amalgamation of steel construction with
parametric exposed brick wall serves as the vacation house for two salem
brothers Mr. and Mrs. Shivakumar, Mr. and Mrs
Yethish and their families. The site area is approximately 15,000 sq.ft with natural context and surrounded by trees. The design seeks to alleviate the stress by breaking
free from their hectic lifestyle. The location offers a contour that faces the
road and can create glimpses into the tranquil surroundings. The steel frames
were designed to resist wind loads as the site offers updraft due to the
contour.
The house invites visitors though a shaded Thinnai acting as
a welcome pavilion. A glass courtyard has been used to enclose the trees that
were kept, giving users a visual component. The ground floor integrates
elements like swimming pool, outdoor dining and barbeque space with the primary
spaces surrounded by trees and landforms. This allows elders to easily access
the recreational spaces surrounded by trees and landforms. The deck spaces
promote dual function, projecting from the structure it offers view towards the
surroundings combined with the ability to funnel wind into the structure. Major
trees that were on the property were
retained and had been employed as a design element. The structural steel was
prefabricated and sought direct installation on site to accelerate building.
The Abundant Stone Available on the Site resulted in elegant random rubble
stone Masonry on retaining, compound, and stilt floor walls. Cut and fill
strategy has been incorporated to allow the building to adapt to the terrain.
This also confers to better views from site. The house has also sees the use of
brick patterns along the staircase to generate movement along with many
interesting features.
The built structure has embarked on the journey of becoming

இயற்கை சூழலுடன் மரங்களால் சூழப்பட்டுள்ளது. இக்கட்டிடத்தின் வடிவமைப்பு அவர்களின் பரபரப்பான வாழ்க்கை முறையில் இருக்கும் மன
அழுத்தத்தைக் குறைக்க முயல்கிறது.சாலையை நோக்கி சாய்வாக உள்ள இந்த இடமானது
அதன் அமைதியான சுற்றுப்புறங்களை ரசிக்க ஏதுவாக உள்ளது. இரும்பு சட்டங்கள் காற்றின் சுமைகளை எதிர்க்கும் வகையில் வடிவமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.
நிழலூட்டப்பட்ட
திண்ணைகள் வரவேற்பு பந்தலாக செயல்பட்டு வருகையாளர்களை
வரவேற்கிறது. வைக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும் மரங்களை மூடுவதற்கு கண்ணாடி
முற்றம் படுத்தப்பட்டுள்ளது, இது பயனர்களுக்கு காட்சி
கூறுகளை வழங்குகிறது. தரைத்தளம் நீச்சல் குளம், வெளிப்புற உணவு மற்றும் பார்பிக்யூ
இடம் போன்ற கூறுகளை மரங்கள் மற்றும் நிலப்பரப்புகளால் சூழப்பட்ட முதன்மை இடங்களுடன் ஒருங்கிணைத்து பொழுதுபோக்கு இடங்களை முதியவர்கள் எளிதாக அணுக அனுமதிக்கிறது. முதல்
தளத்தில் நீட்டப்பட்டுள்ள தளப்பகுதியானது இரட்டை செயல்பாட்டை கொண்டிருக்கிறது. கட்டமைப்பில் இருந்து காற்றை புனல் செய்யும் திறனுடன் சுற்றுப்புற அழகை பயனர்கள்
ரசிக்க ஊக்குவிக்கிறது. கட்டுமான
தளத்தில் இருந்த முக்கிய மரங்கள் தக்கவைக்கப்பட்டு வடிவமைப்பு உறுப்புகளாகப் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டன. கட்டமைப்பில் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்ட இரும்பு சட்டங்கள் முன்கூட்டியே தயாரிக்கப்பட்டு கட்டுமானத்தை துரிதப்படுத்த தளத்தில் நேரடியாக நிறுவப்பட்டது. கட்டுமான தளத்தில் ஏராளமாக கிடைக்கும் கற்கள் சுற்றுச்சுவரை, சீரற்ற கற்சுவராக வடிவமைக்க வழிவகுக்கிறது. கட்டிடத்தை நிலப்பரப்புக்கு ஏற்ப மாற்றுவதற்கு வெட்டி
நிரப்பும் உத்தி
கையாளப்பட்டுள்ளது.படிகட்டுப் பகுதிகளில் வெவ்வேறான செங்கல் அடுக்குகளை பயன்படுத்தி பயனர்களின் இயக்கம் பிரதிபலிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
